2012 年，杭州WiFi“i-hangzhou”免费向公众开放，杭州成为全国首个免费开放WiFi 的城市。如今，大到涵盖金融、政务、医疗、教育的城市一卡通，小到商场的“智能停车”系统、公交站牌的实时路况，一个充满生机的智慧城市已颇具规模。就连为学术研究不可或缺的“中国知网”之类的资源库，在杭州市IP 范围内也可免费享用！

In 2012, the “i-hangzhou” Wifi Scheme was launched at no cost to the public, making Hangzhou the first city to have free WiFi. Today, from the City Pass used in financial, government, medical, and education sectors to smaller ones such as smart car parks at shopping centres and public transit stops have been connected in a smart gird that allows interchange of information. The academic-based National Knowledge Infrastructure and other large-scale data resources are also available for free for users with IPs in the Hangzhou range!

什么？看病不用排队？怎么可能？如果你在杭州，那么一切皆有可能！ 2012 年杭州开始推出智慧医疗，现在已有250 万人员开通了市民卡“智慧医疗”诊间结算功能，曾经让你对医院望而却步、想而生怯的挂号和收费窗口前的排队长龙、B 超室门口的熙熙攘攘都已成为过去。看病真的很难吗？杭州人民告诉你，排队其实真不难。

What? You can see a doctor without having to wait? If you’re in Hangzhou, that’s perfectly possible! In 2012, Hangzhou rolled out its smart medicine initiative, and now more than 2.5 million of its citizens have set themselves up with a “smart medicine” doctor visit and account settlement program. With this, all the things that made you want to stay far away from the hospital, such as waiting for a number to get a number to queue up, then the queues snaking out from the counter where you prepay, before you stand in another queue are things of the past. Whereas people in other cities say that seeing the doctor is a nightmare, it’s not the case in Hangzhou.

最近，支付宝继推出“刷脸”支付功能后，又推出了“空付” 。杭州人对马云的任何新动作都早已习以为常。如今大街上的水果店和贴膜店都标示着“可用支付宝”。出门不带钱包的人越来越多。这个土生土长的杭州小个子男人正用惊人的速度推动着一场互联网革命。连浙江省政府也效仿阿里集团，着手打造起“政务淘宝”。

Recently, after Alipay rolled out its “face swiping” functionality, it also introduced “KungFu”. The people of Hangzhou take anything that Jack Ma does as granted. Fruit shops on the street all have stickers in the window that say “we accept Alipay”. More and more people do not carry cash. This short man, a native of Hangzhou, is pushing forward an internet revolution at a startling speed. The Zhejiang provincial government is also following the example of the Alibaba Group, and is setting out to make a “government Taobao”.

刚到杭州，路边一辆辆同款小汽车引起我的注意。这种车白绿相间，色彩淡雅，比一般的小轿车小三分之一，很轻便的样子。仔细一看，车身写着“微公交”三字。原来这就是传说中专门供出租用的纯电动车“微公交”啊。租用方便，即使是外地游客，凭身份证和驾驶证，预刷1000 元，都可租用。电费都是免的。

When I first arrived in Hangzhou, a row of identical cars at the roodside caught my attention. Painted in white and green, these pale cars represented almost a third of the sedans I saw. They looked light and portable. When I looked closer, I saw they had upon them the word “microtransit” – so these were the electric rental vehicles I’d heard about. They’re convenient to rent,even for an out-of-town visitor. Simply provide your citizen’s ID and driving license, pay a deposit of 1,000 Yuan, and you can use one. What’s more, the electricity is free!

Checking WeChat in the Subway

大多数杭州市民都人手一张市民卡，乘坐各种交通工具很方便。但对于在杭短暂逗留的人来说，尤其碰上旅游旺季，免不了遭遇购票难。2015 年杭州在全国率先推出利用微信支付购买地铁票的业务，可选择在站内扫码购票，或选择在“杭港地铁友礼会”App 上买好票去站内取票。

Most citizens take advantage of the city’s transit card to use all kinds of public transportation services. However, for short-term visitors, especially during the peak travel season, facing the queues to buy tickets is an unavoidable hassle. Luckily, in 2015 Hangzhou rolled out a program that allows one to use WeChat to buy tickets for the underground. You can either scan a QR-code in the underground station, or choose to buy tickets through the“Hangzhou Friends of Underground” app, and retrieve your tickets at the station.

Yunqi Town (“Cloud Town”) is a site for cloud activity in Hangzhou. Located in Hangzhou Zhuantang Science, Technology and Economic Park, it’s a small village that provides a way of life centering around the cloud concept. It’s not a village in the administrative sense, but rather an innovation centre. When talking about the “cloud” concept in big data, Cloud Town is striving to be the first place in innovation and specialisation in China.

说起屠呦呦及其诺贝尔奖，有一家杭州余杭的公司不得不提——华立集团。它是全世界最大的青蒿素生产企业，也是全球唯一掌握产业链的企业。这家公司原本主要生产仪表，从事电力自动化，之所以投资发展不太赚钱的青蒿素产业链近二十年，既是被科学家的献身精神所感动，也是为了履行民族企业的社会责任。

When talking about Tu Youyou and the Nobel Prize, there is a company based in Yuhang District, Hangzhou, that must be mentioned – the Huali Group.It’s the biggest producer of artemisinin, and the only one in its field with an industry chain. The company originally started off producing metering equipment and working in electric automation, but during the past 20 years or so, it has been involved in producing artemisinin with slim profit margins for being touched by the devotion of the scientist and bearing its social responsibility as a civil enterprise.

When talking about famous enterprises from Hangzhou, the number one word in everyone’s mind is “Alibaba”. Hong Kong has previously been called Lee Kashing city; in present day, not just Hangzhou but the daily life of most of Chinese people live to some extent in Jack Ma’s virtual empire or have a connection to it. Merchants don’t waste time with brick-and-mortar stores, they buy from virtual shops on Taobao.com. Buyers don’t use bank cards or cash, they use Alipay instead.

When a number of centuries-old famous brands in China are struggling to adapt to a new economic environment, Caizhizhai, an old and famous confectionery store, is already enjoying the sweet benefits of internet commerce. Cross-border Electronic Trade of Fresh Goods

随着国民收入不断增长，海外购物需求量增加，国内电商市场竞争激烈，导致了跨境电商这种新模式的崛起。生鲜这种东西的地域性很强，其特殊性也给它的操作带来了一定的难度。杭州作为全国唯一的跨境电商综合试验区，也不断在为生鲜的跨境电商摸索着道路，未来，也许足不出户一样可以享受美食。

As the income of the Chinese populace continues to increase, the demand for goods from overseas grows, and domestic electronic merchants engage in fierce competition – this has brought about a new model of cross-border e-commerce. Fresh goods have very strong ties to their specific regions of productions, and due to their specific nature, they can be hard to transport. Hangzhou is the only cross-border e-commerce comprehensive test area in China right now, and continually looks for routes to move these fresh goods into China in an e-commerce framework. In the future, we may be able to enjoy fresh food from other countries without setting foot outside.

Hangzhou isn’t just an ancient city, but also one of innovation. Loft 49 has taken a lead in innovation. An abandoned factory has been transformed by a young person into a centre for creation. Designers living in old houses make drawings left and right of all kinds of new designs. There are also cute little pets. It’s like magic has transformed the area into a new space in which young wizards create wonders for our future.
